The Deutscher Klub of the Northern Virginia Community College (Alexandria Campus) began in 1980 with just a few students and has since grown to nearly 100 members. The membership now includes students, former students, family members and residents of the community. We all share a common interest - Germany. The Klub was initially formed to provide an opportunity for students to use their classroom-acquired ability in a social setting. The scope has since broadened to include a means for becoming better acquainted with the customs and history of Germany, while at the same time continuing to offer opportunities to practice and improve proficiency in the language.

On a continuing basis, the Klub promotes the use of the German language whenever members gather at social functions. Former residents of Germany are able to retain fluency or perhaps have it revived. Current and former students are encouraged to use what they have learned in a practical way.

Some very popular past events have included the annual Oktoberfests, Spaziergang-Picnics, trips to Germany, films, parties, visits to the German Embassy and hosting visiting groups from Germany.
